Over Easter, the times during which alcohol may be sold on licensed premises in Northern Ireland is slightly different to the rest of the year.
The Republic of Ireland also has legislation which restricts Easter opening hours, but England, Scotland and Wales do not.
In Scotland, as well as England and Wales, premises may in theory open for 24 hours. On-sale premises determine their normal opening hours in their operating plan as part of their premises licence, which is then subject to approval by the relevant authority.
Northern Ireland Easter licensing hours 2018
Licensed premises include businesses such as bars, restaurants, hotels and theatres who hold a licence to sell alcohol or ‘liquor licence’. Some licensed premises have a ‘late licence’ that normally allows them to sell alcohol as late as 01:00, instead of the usual limit of 23:00.
Easter licensing hours
The permitted hours that licensed premises can sell alcohol during the Easter period are:
Holy Thursday, 29 March 2018 – Licensed premises may sell alcohol 11:30 – 23:00, those with a ‘late licence’ may sell alcohol until midnight. Off-licences may sell alcohol 08:00-23:00.
Good Friday, 30 March 2018 – Licensed premises may sell only alcohol 17:00 – 23:00, even if they hold a late licence. Off-licences may sell alcohol 08:00-23:00.
Easter Saturday, 31 March 2018 – Licensed premises may sell alcohol 11:30 – 23:00, those with a late licence may sell alcohol until midnight. Off-licences may sell alcohol 08:00-23:00.
Easter Sunday, 1 April 2018 – Licensed premises may only sell alcohol 12:30 – 22:00, even if they hold a late licence. Off-licences are not allowed to sell alcohol at all.
Easter Monday and Tuesday, 2-3 April 2018 – As usual. Licensed premises may sell alcohol 11:30 – 23:00, and those with a late licence may sell alcohol until 01:00. Off-licences may sell alcohol 08:00-23:00.

Thursday, 29th March 10.30 a.m. to 11.30 p.m.
Good Friday, 30th March 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 a.m.
Saturday, 31st March 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 a.m.
Easter Sunday, 1st April (Eve of a Public Holiday) 12.30 p.m. to 12.30 a.m.
Easter Monday, 2nd April Public Holiday (Normal Trading Hours) 10.30 a.m. to 11.30 p.m.
Drinking-up time of 30 minutes applies in all of the above cases.
Please note that the public holiday arrangements apply in relation to Easter Monday only (Good Friday is not a public holiday).
